The renewable project developer and service provider Juwi has brought the largest PV project in the company’s history to date in the USA with an output of 223.6 megawatts (MW) online.
The “Pike Solar” solar park is located on an area of over 530 hectares south of the city of Colorado Springs on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains, around 100 kilometers south of Denver. Construction of the project began in late fall 2022, with over 400,000 solar modules installed on a single-axis substructure with automatic tracking.
Juwi built “Pike Solar” for the energy company Deriva (formerly Duke Energy). The regional US energy supplier Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) will purchase the solar power generated as part of a 17-year power purchase agreement.
Juwi was previously responsible for the development, technical design and construction of the project and will continue to provide operation and maintenance services. Deriva Energy will be the owner of the plant and will assume responsibility for operation and maintenance together with Juwi.
“The successful completion of the largest solar park in JUWI history with 223 megawatts once again proves our leading expertise as a project developer, EPC service provider and operations manager. In the USA we have now implemented 25 projects with a total output of around 730 megawatts and have an attractive pipeline,” emphasizes Stephan Hansen, COO of Juwi. Juwi CEO Carsten Bovenschen is also delighted with the record project: “This underlines our role as one of the leading renewable energy companies in selected foreign markets,” says Bovenschen.
