TechnipFMC has qualified its 66 kV dynamic inter-array cable to CIGRE TB 862, extending its qualified technology offering for floating offshore wind projects.
The programme ran for 18 months and included electrical testing, wet ageing and 1.5 million flex-fatigue cycles under conditions designed to represent harsh North Sea service. Bureau Veritas independently verified successful completion of the testing.
Unlike static cables resting on the seabed, dynamic cables must accommodate the continuing movement of floating turbines. Their electrical performance must be maintained alongside resistance to bending, tension and fatigue.
TechnipFMC’s qualified design is a three-core copper cable intended for water depths of up to 350 metres and a 25-year service life. It is manufactured at the company’s Newcastle facility.
The cable can be delivered within an integrated scope combining moorings, anchors and installation. TechnipFMC said that designing these elements together can reduce interface risks. Qualification establishes performance against defined requirements; individual developments may still require project-specific confirmation tests.
