Ørsted has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Hornsea 3 project in the UK North Sea. The offshore wind farm will feature a generation capacity of 2.9GW.
Hornsea 3 is located approximately 120km off the coast of Norfolk and 160km off Yorkshire, covering and area of 696km².
The company has also disclosed that Siemens Gamesa has been chosen for the project’s supply of wind turbines. More than 230 units of Siemens’ 14MW 13-236 DD model will be delivered to Ørsted.
Once it becomes operational in 2027, Hornsea 3 will list among the largest offshore wind farms in the world, powering over 3.3 million homes in the UK.
