New High-Capacity Wind Turbine for Low-Wind Regions

The Nordex Group has unveiled its new N193/7.X wind turbine at WindEnergy Hamburg, featuring a rotor diameter of 193 metres and a capacity of up to 7.3 MW. For the German market, the turbine will initially be offered with a maximum capacity of 6.6 MW. Series production is scheduled to start in 2029.

Nordex is developing its turbines in two directions: higher rated capacities and larger rotor diameters. After the N175/6.X was expanded in April 2026 to include a 7.3 MW operating mode, the N193/7.X now follows as a variant in the same capacity class, with a larger rotor for sites with medium and low wind speeds.

N193/7.X Wind Turbine: Larger Rotor Increases Energy Yield by up to 14 PercentThe N193/7.X features a rotor diameter of 193 metres and single-piece rotor blades, each 95 metres long. Compared with the N175/6.X and its 175-metre rotor, the calculated swept area is around 22 percent larger. According to Nordex, the new turbine achieves an energy yield up to 14 percent higher at typical low- to medium-wind sites.The turbine will be offered in several rated capacity variants. While the maximum capacity is 7.3 MW, a variant with a maximum of 6.6 MW is initially planned for the German market. Nordex aims to optimise project economics at sites with medium to low wind speeds while also taking permitting and grid connection requirements into account.Various operating modes allow the turbine to be adapted to site-specific requirements in terms of energy yield, capacity factor, noise emissions and service life. Different tower technologies and hub heights are also available.

Delta4000 Platform: Nordex Builds on Existing Technology and Larger RotorsThe N193/7.X is based on the existing Delta4000 platform. Key components such as the nacelle, turbine control system and electrical architecture have been carried over and further developed for the new turbine variant. This allows Nordex to draw on existing production, logistics and installation processes.“The N193/7.X is the next chapter in the Delta4000 success story,” said José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group. Through targeted enhancements to the proven platform, Nordex is offering a powerful and flexible solution for different market and site requirements, thereby creating additional value for its customers, Blanco said.Using existing components enables Nordex to develop the new turbine within its current platform without introducing an entirely new turbine generation. Series production is scheduled to start in 2029.

The N175/6.X, with a rotor diameter of 175 metres, has also reached a capacity of up to 7.3 MW since the introduction of the additional operating mode in April 2026. At the same maximum rated capacity, the new N193/7.X offers a rotor area around 22 percent larger.The larger rotor makes it possible to capture more wind energy at lower wind speeds. At the same time, the different capacity variants allow adaptation to the respective site conditions. Nordex is thus expanding its offering in the 7 MW class with a turbine designed in particular for higher energy yields at low- and medium-wind sites.
