Iberdrola Adds 957 MW of Solar Capacity as Renewable Fleet Expands

Iberdrola has increased its installed solar capacity by 957 MW compared with a year earlier, taking its photovoltaic fleet’s growth rate to 12.2%, according to operational information released on 9 October.

Solar formed part of a broader expansion that lifted the group’s total generation capacity to 57,205 MW, an increase of 2,352 MW.

The update also recorded 511 MW of additional offshore wind capacity and 235 MW of extra battery storage. Those additions demonstrate how generation and flexibility assets are being developed together across the electricity system.

Across all technologies, the United States added 744 MW, Australia 701 MW and Germany more than 350 MW. The company did not assign those country totals solely to solar.

For the renewable energy supply chain, the operational figures provide evidence of continuing deployment across several major markets. They should be distinguished from announcements of prospective projects or capacity that has yet to enter the installed fleet.

The wider expansion also reinforces the importance of grid access and storage as growing volumes of variable renewable generation connect to electricity networks.
