VSB Group Wins Contract for Record-Breaking Solar Park in Poland

A large portion of electricity generation in Poland still comes from coal-fired power plants, but the transformation of the energy system is progressing rapidly. In particular, the use of solar and wind energy is gaining importance through large-scale projects. The Dresden-based VSB Group is also benefiting from the market developments in Poland.

According to the Financial Times, renewable energies accounted for 44.1 percent of Poland’s electricity mix in June 2025, surpassing coal for the first time, which stood at 43.7 percent. In this dynamic market environment, the VSB Group is continuing to expand its project activities in Poland. A 303 MW solar park in Lower Silesia and an expanded wind farm with 190.8 MW in Greater Poland are currently among the largest onshore energy projects in the country. Both projects highlight the strategic importance of the Polish market for the Dresden-based company, which is one of Europe’s leading vertically integrated developers in the field of renewable energy.

Solar boost for Poland: VSB wins polish CfD auction for giant solar park

The VSB Group has been awarded a contract in the auction held by Poland’s Energy Regulatory Office (URE) for a solar park with a capacity of 303 MWp. The fully permitted project is located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, covering around 260 hectares northeast of Wroc?aw. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with commissioning expected in the second quarter of 2027. The planned facility will generate enough electricity annually to power around 117,000 households. The remuneration will be based on a Contract for Difference (CfD), offering long-term price certainty.

“With this project, we are setting a new benchmark for solar energy in Poland. In just a few years, it could evolve into one of Europe’s largest hybrid energy projects, combining photovoltaics, battery storage, and wind power,” says Hubert Kowalski, Managing Director of VSB Poland, welcoming the auction award. The project’s success will depend heavily on future economic conditions and regulatory frameworks. In addition, local dialogue and support are of paramount importance. “Only in close cooperation with local communities can we create sustainable solutions for renewable energy projects of this scale,” Kowalski adds. “We are proud to actively contribute to the energy transition with this flagship photovoltaic project – one of the largest in Poland,” adds Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group.

VSB developped Poland’s largest onshore wind farm – Nordex to supply turbines

The solar park is VSB’s second major project in Poland: the company previously initiated construction on the Miejska Górka onshore wind farm, currently the largest onshore wind farm in Poland. VSB developed the project for its client and partner Tauron Zielona Energia, Poland’s second-largest energy company.

Initially, the project was planned with 41 Nordex N117/3500 wind turbines, providing a total capacity of 147.6 MW. It has now been decided to install 12 additional N117/3600 turbines, increasing the project to a total of 53 wind turbines with a capacity of 190.8 MW.

Nordex announced in 2024 that it would begin delivering the initial 41 turbines at the end of 2025, totaling 147.6 MW. The wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned in early 2027.
