TenneT wins Corporate Green, Social or Sustainable Issuer Award

Last Wednesday, the Global Capital Awards were presented in London. After previous awards for our green financing, TenneT now won the Most Impressive Corporate Green, Social or Sustainable Bond Issuer Award for our green bond issues in 2022. We spoke to Gerard Kits, Head of Treasury about this award and the importance of our green financing programme.

Is green finance embedded in our DNA?

Gerard: “Yes, absolutely! And that starts with TenneT’s strategy in which CSR has a prominent place. One of our four strategic pillars is Drive the energy transition as a green grid operator. TenneT works at the heart of the energy transition and is one of the largest investors in this transition. This gives us a clear profile for issuing green financing instruments, such as our green bonds.

Our green financing strategy is not from yesterday. In 2015, we were the first Dutch Corporate Issuer to start issuing green bonds. First for three German offshore projects, later this was expanded to include more German and Dutch offshore projects and since 2020 the green project portfolio also includes onshore projects.”

Another award, how is that?

“It is a wonderful recognition from the market for what we achieved in 2022. Earlier, we also won the Environmental Finance Award (Green Bond of the Year – Corporate) and the CMD award for Best Corporate Issuer. The award we have now received completes it. Nice to take a moment to reflect on that. But for us, the focus is on what we are working on now, such as recently the new 8 billion credit facility we raised and of course the exploration of the sale of our German operations.”
