Nel has entered a framework agreement with Hydrasun to develop European assembly and integration capabilities for its MC Series proton exchange membrane electrolyser platform. Hydrasun plans to upgrade its Aberdeen facilities to support the manufacture of complete, containerised systems.
Under the arrangement, Nel will continue producing electrolyser stacks at its Wallingford facility in Connecticut. Hydrasun will procure, manufacture and integrate the surrounding balance of plant equipment, bringing the components together into modular hydrogen production packages.
The initiative is supported by the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund. Hydrasun says it could create up to 12 jobs while protecting another 11 existing positions, drawing on Aberdeen’s established engineering and energy industry skills.
Nel expects the partnership to increase manufacturing flexibility and improve supply chain resilience by adding European integration capacity alongside its existing US arrangements. The agreement addresses demand for standardised electrolyser systems that can be assembled and delivered as integrated packages, rather than requiring extensive bespoke integration for every installation. It represents a manufacturing and delivery partnership, rather than an announcement of a specific hydrogen production plant.
