EnviTec Advances Three Biomethane Projects in Germany

EnviTec Biogas is advancing three German projects that demonstrate the conversion of established biogas facilities into renewable gas producers. The developments span Priborn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Friesoythe in Lower Saxony and Delbrück in North Rhine-Westphalia.

At Priborn, the company’s own plant has been upgrading biogas to biomethane since July. The site, originally commissioned in 2004 for electricity generation, has gained an EnviThan upgrading system rated at 475 normal cubic metres per hour, alongside new feedstock handling and digestate storage equipment.

The Friesoythe project will supply the EWE NETZ gas network. Its first expansion stage is designed to process 500 normal cubic metres of raw biogas per hour, with a potential later increase to 600. Feedstocks will include slurry, manure and renewable agricultural materials.

At Delbrück, a containerised membrane upgrading unit rated at 200 normal cubic metres per hour is being connected to an existing plant. Initial gas injection is scheduled for November. The projects show how operators can redirect biogas from electricity production towards grid-quality gas as older support arrangements expire.
